91 Place Incorporated

$270,000 - 2022, 2023, & 2024

The goal and vision of 91 Place is to successfully transition at-risk youth experiencing homelessness into adulthood through self-sufficient and sustainable living and learning skills to promote economic independence to prevent long-term dependency on social services. 91 Place provides safe, stable, and appropriate housing by creating a self-sufficient network of resources, caring adults, and life skills that minimize the risk of youth vulnerable to sexual exploitation, labor trafficking, or gang involvement ages 18-24. 91 Place emphasizes building and maintaining relationships so these youth have access to and form a support network within their community. By learning how to create (and maintain) healthy relationships, youth become independent and self-sufficient and learn skills that promote interconnectedness, economic independence, and long-term success.  91 Place seeks funding to expand volunteer mentor recruitment, support live-in house mentors, and improve housing support to promote long-term stability through connection, resources, and relationships.

A BETTER WAY OUTREACH INC

$250,000 - 2024

A Better Way Outreach incorporated is a Substance and Addictions treatment facility that offers treatment of opioid, alcohol, and other substances through counseling and medication assisted treatment.  ABW focuses on adults 18 and over that need treatment and support to overcome addictions in a safe environment that understands that using substances may have started as a choice that can lead to chemical dependence and physical and mental illness.  Keith Richardson had a vision in 2018 to start and organization that would address the cries he heard from a community in need that is often afraid to seek help due to the stigma that is placed on those suffering from addictions.

Upon hearing from so many that were suffering and losing to the plague of addiction, our Executive Director, Keith Richardson, knew it was necessary to answer a call to his passion for serving others.  A team was formed by several professionals and experts in the field to be a power source in the solution for one of the many needs of the community including Dr. Frank P. Lloyd, CEO who has been serving the community for over 40 years.  The leadership team decided to incorporate a strengths-based model to empower, not enable, those needing treatment for opiate and other addictions.  This empowerment is being realized using evidenced based assessment, curriculums, and treatment models that include but are not limited to; ASAM, SAMSAH, Living in Balance, Straight Ahead: Transition Skills for Recovery, as well as Matrix model.  Since 2018 ABW has been providing individual, group, and medication assisted treatment to all who qualify for treatment under the criteria of the DSM-V regardless of race, sex, creed, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status.

Proposal Overview: Mental Support and Grief Programming

Purpose:

The primary purpose of our proposal is to deliver essential mental support to women and teen girls within our community. Recognizing the diverse nature of grief, our proposal strategically focuses on providing grief support that extends beyond traditional perceptions tied solely to death. By partnering with organizations like CAFE for teen girls and expanding collaborations with community organizations, we aim to create a comprehensive mental health support network. Through targeted programming and women's cohorts, our goal is to foster a resilient community where individuals can navigate various forms of grief and build the skills needed for emotional well-being.

Target Audience:

Our proposal is tailored to serve women and teen girls of color, acknowledging the unique challenges they face in the realm of mental health. The program will address the specific needs of these demographics, offering a safe and supportive environment for open discussions, skill-building, and the cultivation of coping mechanisms. By recognizing the distinct experiences of women and teen girls, we aim to provide tailored mental health resources and support.

Target Neighborhood(s):

Our initiative will initially focus on specific neighborhoods identified as having a higher need for mental health support. These neighborhoods will be selected based on demographic data, community engagement, and collaboration with local partners. The intention is to prioritize communities where the impact can be most significant and to gradually expand the program's reach based on assessed needs.
